Older adult wellness programming is one of the fastest growing areas, especially in aquatics, fitness, and strength training. These programs will help older adults maintain independent healthy lifestyles. Our Active Older Adults (AOA) programs, designed for those age 50 & older, will help you not only physically, but emotionally and spiritually. Enjoy our delicious potluck luncheons or take part in a variety of special programs throughout the year, including guest speakers on such topics as stroke and diabetes. Come visit us and join in the fun!

Cardio-Core Blast Join us for this 30-minute class that will focus low-impact cardio moves to strengthen your heart and lungs, coupled with core-strengthening exercises on and off the mat. This class is geared toward older and beginning exercisers.

Cardio Drumming This unique class captures the essence of rhythm and movement combined with a creative and fun spirit that delivers results for both body and mind. Participants will use drumsticks and an exercise ball to keep time to the music while getting their body moving and feet stomping. 

Functional Strength, Balance & Flexibility Strength, balance and flexibility are essential in maintaining a comfortable, independent life. This class will provide you with the tools necessary to improve your daily life in these areas including coordination, posture and range of motion.

Gentle Yoga Yoga class just for you! This class uses chairs and mats.

Senior Bowling Super Bowl Lanes in Crown Point, IN on Mondays at 12:00pm, 3 games $5.25 plus shoes. Meet at Bowling alley to enjoy Senior Bowling!

Senior Boot Camp This course includes low to medium intensity intervals combined with strength training to increase strength and cardiovascular endurance, while teaching proper techniques and functional training to succeed in all your fitness goals.

Senior Strength and Stretch Exercise Class This exercise program is designed to help those who have joint and muscle problems achieve improved mobility, muscle strength and endurance in order to improve daily activities.

Slimnastics You are never too old to exercise! This five week class is especially designed for active older adults. Class structure includes low impact movements, use of hand weights, dynabands, and stability balls plus cardio drumming. Great for coordination, balance, and flexibility. Proven to be a good time!

Fitness activity will combat stress, increase your energy level, improve your attitude, help manage your weight and make it easier to cope with your normal activities. Fitness classes allow participants to learn, grow and have fun in a supportive environment. These classes are free to members. Participants must be at least 12 years of age, unless otherwise stated. All instructors encourage participants to go at their own pace and offer modifications to accommodate all fitness levels. If you have a medical condition or injury, please notify your instructor prior to starting class.

Assisted Stretching Available at Southlake ONLY
Looking to improve flexibility, more mobility, and improve overall performance? Meet with our certified trainer who is specially trained to perform assisted stretching movements that will deliver more than you can achieve stretching yourself. 30 or 60 minute sessions available. Rates are same as Personal Training rates.

Sport Performance Personal Training (small group for those in 7th-12th grades) Looking for customized group training for you and your team or workout buddies? We’ll match your group with a trainer who will design exercise sessions especially for your groups’ goals and meet with you at a time that is convenient. Available at Southlake ONLY

Monthly Workshops Available at Southlake ONLY
Join us of the first Monday of each month at 6:30pm for an informational workshop on nutrition, fitness, or health. Topics will include Healthy Eating/Snack Ideas, Pre/Post Workout Snacks, Beginner Running Program, Stretching Workshops to name a few. Check the app and our website for the full calendar.

Take advantage of these FREE mini-training sessions scheduled throughout the month. Join our fitness experts as they introduce you to new equipment, targeted workouts, or a host of other fitness opportunities. Participate in as many of these free mini sessions as you wish. No sign up is necessary. Check the featured workout schedule to be posted each week at the Fitness Desk.

Exercise Your Potential NEW at all Crossroads locations!
The community is invited to attend a free Crossroads YMCA Wellness Open House. Stop by to learn more about how your neighborhood YMCA can support you and your family’s health and well-being. Activities will include use of the Wellness Center, a sample of group exercise classes, opportunity to meet staff and much more. Come dressed to play. Please check at each location for specific activities and schedules. Participants must be 12 years and older to attend. Signed waivers are required for all participants.

Exercise Across America NEW at all Crossroads locations!
Join our summer incentive program beginning June 1 through September 1. The goal is to run/walk, pedal or swim across America. Keep track of your miles and our staff will chart your progress on a map in the Wellness Center. Compete against other Y members to see who can get the farthest!

Yoga in the Park
Yoga is a class for everyone, no matter what age or fitness level. Gently stretch your body, and breathe your stress away while having fun. This class will focus on fluid movements to increase range of motion and increase joint and muscle flexibility. Beginners will learn the basics and all will have an opportunity to feel challenged. Guests are encouraged to bring their own mats.

  • Griffith Central Park: Mondays from 6-7:00pm, June 4-August 27
  • Whiting Lakefront Park: Saturdays from 9-10:00am, only on June 2, July 7, August 4, September 8

Zumba on Sheridan Stage Whiting, Indiana
At the corner of Sheridan Avenue and 119th Street. Zumba is all about the energy, the music, and having fun while doing something good for your body. Everyone is welcome. No dance experience is required. Please bring plenty of water and wear comfortable sneakers.

The TRX Suspension Trainer is the original, best-in-class workout system that leverages gravity and your bodyweight to perform hundreds of exercises. Our TRX certified trainer will design a program to fit your needs. Anyone young or old, beginner or advanced can benefit from TRX training. Each session is 30 minutes long.
