Activity Center
For youth 6-12 years of age: Activity Coordinator will conduct age-appropriate activities for this age group who are not in programs while their parents are using the facility during set hours of operation. Children 5 years of age-3 months old may use Child Watch up to two hours as long as a parent is in the facility (e.g. exercising in fitness center, watching another child participate in sports or classes, etc.). Family membership is required.

Areas of Focus
The Y offers programs, services and initiatives focused on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, according to the unique needs of the communities it engages. The Y is accessible to all people. Income-based scholarships are offered to individuals and families who cannot afford a membership.

A.W.A.Y. Program
Bring your YMCA membership card while traveling. The Ys that participate in the A.W.A.Y. program welcome you at their facility.

Code of Conduct
All individuals using the YMCA facilities are expected to conduct themselves in a manner consistent with the character, welfare, best interests and policies of the YMCA. Failure to do so will result in the immediate dismissal from the premises and may result in revocation of membership and/or usage privileges.

Crossroads YMCA
Crossroads YMCA is the association that includes four branches in Lake County, Indiana: Griffith, Hammond, Southlake and Whiting. Crossroads Y members can participate in programs at any branch, not just their home branch.

Dress Code Policy
Garments that have pictures and/or writing that are vulgar, suggestive, indecent or otherwise offensive or that allude to drugs, alcoholic drinks or gang involvement are not allowed. Shirts and shoes must be worn in building. Individuals are not permitted to dress in a manner that’s unsafe or disrupts the mission of the Crossroads YMCA. Members who do not follow the dress code policy will be required to leave the building. Continual abuse of the policy will result in membership suspension or cancellation. Workout clothing and hygiene items should be carried in a gym bag. Shirts and proper gym shoes must be worn at all times.

Guest Passes
We offer unlimited guest passes for members, but each guest may only visit two times per year. A current adult member can bring in one guest or one family per visit.

Indiana Reciprocity
The Y movement is for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. We want to encourage members to utilize the Y as often as they can. Sometimes, it’s more convenient for members to utilize a Y in a different location when traveling, near a workplace or in another region. Now, full facility/full privilege YMCA members have the flexibility to use other Y facilities throughout the state at no extra charge and receive member pricing on programs. Did you know? AWAY access is available at 2,000 Ys throughout the country.

Locker Room Policy
The YMCA is not responsible for your personal belongings. Members are urged to use locks on their lockers. We suggest not bringing valuables of any kind. If you choose to use one of the free daily lockers, your belongings must be removed upon leaving the facility for the day. Belongings left in the locker or locks left on daily lockers will be removed at the end of the day—contents will be held for 2 weeks then discarded. Use of CAMERA DEVICES are prohibited in all Locker Rooms, Assisted Changing Rooms and Restrooms. Use of Family Locker Rooms by opposite sex children is restricted to age 5 and under when accompanied by a parent. If assistance is needed for anyone 6 years and older, it is suggested that the Private/Individual Locker Rooms be used.

Medical Insurance
Individual medical insurance is NOT provided by Crossroads YMCA locations. Individuals are responsible for their own medical costs arising from injuries while participating in YMCA activities.

Program Refunds
Program fees are refundable only in the form of a system credit if the YMCA cancels the class. System credits are given for doctor substantiated reasons and then only for the portion of the fees unused after written notification. No refunds or credits will be given for classes or sessions not held due to “acts of God” such as severe weather, power failure, fire, etc...for questions please call the executive director.

Racquetball Court Policy (Racquetball not available at all branches)
All court times are reserved in one hour increments. Court must be relinquished upon expiration of reserved time. Court may be reserved up to two (2) days in advance. If court is reserved the same day—no charge for reservation. If court is reserved one or two days in advance a $5.00 fee will be charged. NO EXCEPTIONS. Children ages 13 and under are permitted on the court with a parent. Racquetball court is to be used for racquetball & handball only! No other sport activities may use the racquetball court. Shirts and proper gym shoes must be worn at all times. Protective eyewear is highly recommended.

Special Age Requirements
Children 11 years and under must have a parent or guardian with them in the building. Crossroads YMCA locations are “programmed” facilities, meaning the time we spend with children is scheduled.

We encourage the use of our facility (open gym, open recreation) by our youth members; however, we do not provide staff supervision for these times and recommend that you enroll your child in one of our many programs if he or she plans on being at the YMCA for longer than two hours.

For safety and well-being, children ages 12-17 who are left at the YMCA for the day without being enrolled in a specific program may be considered neglected. We reserve the right to contact the proper authorities.

WELLNESS CENTER: Only open to members 15 years and older. Members 12-14 years of age, may use the Wellness Center without parental supervision after completion of the Fitness Orientation. Age requirements for facility usage without parent supervision are:
