FAQs about Schererville YMCA for Franciscan Health Fitness Center Members 

When will the transition take place to become a YMCA happen?  
The transition will take place over the coming months.

What will happen to my Franciscan Health Fitness membership?  
Members will have the opportunity to convert their membership beginning in October and become a YMCA member. The Y will have a membership office on site to help members. The first YMCA draft will be January 1, 2022. 

When will my omni dues stop? 
November 1, 2021 will be the last dues paid effective through November 30.

Will I see any operational changes?  

  • You will see changes such as reduced membership dues (same as Crown Point). Currently these YMCA rates are:

    Will you have senior rates or silver sneakers? 
    Yes, we will have senior rates, silver sneakers, and AARP Renew Active memberships

    Do you have reduced rates for those who need assistance? 
    Yes, Crossroads YMCA wants everyone to enjoy its programs and services. Adult and family Members who are unable to pay the full cost of membership may apply for reduced fees. An income-based membership application and last year's IRS tax return must be presented. Visit crymca.org/findmyrate for this opportunity.

    Will you have any updates to the facility? 
    Yes, we will make improvements to the fitness center, gymnasium, and add new branding and informational systems such as printed brochures, and open time flyers by areas for members that the Y calls mastheads. We are reviewing locker room options as we look to create a safe, family-friendly environment.

    What will the hours be at the Y? 
    As a family-friendly facility, the hours will be Monday-Friday: 4:45am-10:00pm; Saturday & Sunday: 6:30am-7:00pm

    How does the Y communicate with members? 
    The YMCA values feedback from our members! We provide newsletters, monthly surveys, social media updates, and there will be immediate feedback kiosks around the building.

    What will happen to our current classes we take at Omni? 
    The Y will continue to look at and evaluate the current programming, but we plan for group exercise and wellness programs to remain very similar. As you are familiar with—group exercise classes will be included for members. We plan to continue offering a variety of Les Mills classes that members enjoy. 

    Are there any new programs as it becomes the Y? 
    As a Y dedicated to serving families, you will see many new opportunities for kids. These structured, supervised programs require registration and are popular in the community. Some of these include gymnastics, dance, cheer, ninja, developmental & youth sports and STEAM. 

    What about Kids Zone or childcare for members? 
    The YMCA’s Kids Zone for ages 6 weeks to 5 years who have an active family membership. Your child’s time in our Kids Zone drop-in day care will be a fun, enriching experience with activities, games and crafts that reflect the core values of the YMCA. Open Monday-Friday 8:00am-8:00pm; Saturday/Sunday 8:00am-2:00pm. 

    The Y will offer Kids Club which is a drop off program for children ages 6-12 years old who have an active family membership. Kids Club occurs in open space areas in facility and requires children to be able to stay with the staff during program. Open Monday-Friday 4-8:00pm; Saturday/Sunday 8:00am-2:00pm.

    Are there any changes to pool area?  
    Part of our YMCA’s commitment to safety, lifeguards are on duty at all times the pools are open at YMCA locations. We will continue to offer family swim, lap swim, water fitness and swim lessons as the location transitions to the Y. 

    How old do children need to be to use parts of the facility? 
    Ages 9 and under: Must be accompanied by parent/guardian, unless in an organized program. 
    Ages 10-11: Can be in facility alone (i.e. gymnasium, family center); Can use track with immediate supervision of parent; Can use pools alone–areas of pool use are dependent on child’s swim ability 
    Ages 12-13: Can be in facility alone ( i.e. gymnasium, family center); Can use track without supervision of parent; Can use pools alone-areas of pool use are dependent on child’s swim ability; Can use wellness center equipment with special designation and completion of equipment check; Can take group fitness classes with parent 
    Ages 14 –17: All facility accesses and usage (except where designated adult like adult locker rooms, sauna and steam room)
